Prayer Poems

Welcome to Prayer Poems, a place where heartfelt words are lifted to God in faith, hope, worship, and surrender.

Prayer is more than spoken requests; it is the cry of the heart reaching toward the Lord. Sometimes we pray with confidence, sometimes with tears, sometimes with questions, and sometimes with only a whisper. Yet God hears every sincere prayer offered before Him.

This collection of prayer poems is written to encourage the soul, comfort the weary, strengthen faith, and help the heart draw closer to God. Each poem is a gentle reminder that we can bring everything to the Lord—our burdens, our gratitude, our fears, our failures, our praise, and our deepest longings.

Whether you are seeking peace, healing, direction, forgiveness, or a closer walk with God, may these prayer poems help you pause, reflect, and turn your heart toward the One who listens with love.

May every line become an invitation to pray, and every prayer become a step nearer to God.

Before Buying Anything

Before buying anything, pause and pray,
Ask if you need it, or just want it today.
The heart can be tempted, the eyes can be led,
By glittering promises carefully spread.

Before buying anything, count what it costs,
Not only in dollars, but peace that is lost.
Will it bring blessing, or burden and strain?
Will it serve wisdom, or add needless pain?

Before buying anything, ask what is true,
Will this thing truly be helpful to you?
Or is it a moment, a passing desire,
A spark that soon fades like smoke from a fire?

Before buying anything, remember God’s care,
He knows all your needs, He hears every prayer.
Contentment is treasure no money can buy,
A quiet heart resting in God’s full supply.

Before buying anything, take time to see,
Is this good stewardship He desires of me?
For all that we have is a gift from His hand,
To use with His wisdom, according to plan.

Before buying anything, let patience decide,
Not pressure, not envy, not impulse, not pride.
For wisdom waits calmly while hurry runs fast,
And many quick purchases do not last.

So before buying anything, whisper this prayer,
“Lord, guide my choices with wisdom and care.
Help me be faithful in little and great,
To trust You enough to pause, pray, and wait.”

Here is a prayer poem titled “Love Thy Neighbor.”

Love Thy Neighbor

Lord, teach my heart to love today,
Not only those who walk my way;
But those whose burdens I may not see,
Yet still are precious, Lord, to Thee.

Help me to speak with gentle grace,
To see Your image in each face;
To lift the fallen, calm the fear,
And show Your kindness drawing near.

Teach me to love beyond my pride,
Beyond the walls where hurts may hide;
To forgive the wound, release the pain,
And let Your mercy rise again.

Let me not pass the hurting by,
Nor close my heart to another’s cry;
But give with hands and words that heal,
A love made active, true, and real.

Lord, when my patience starts to fade,
Remind me of the love You gave;
For while I wandered, weak and lost,
You loved me dearly through the cross.

So make my life a prayer of care,
A light of hope, a burden shared;
Till neighbor, stranger, friend, and foe,
Through me, Your love may gently flow.

Amen.
